Week 1 - Gavin Boone
The main goal of this week was to gain a background understanding of the MIT-Manus project, which ARMtech is inspired by, to brainstorm locomotion methods for the resistive handle, and to interview Dr. Kim with the intent of clarifying his desired outcome for the project.
The MIT-Manus project uses a series of linkages connected to a brushless motor to provide assistance for the patients as needed. With this inspiration, I have done research on linkages, gantries, and cable-suspension systems as possible locomotion options. Motor selection research has also begun, trying to find a back-drivable motor that will suit our purposes.
I also brainstormed questions to better define the electrical requirements for the project, some of which included topics such as system power, portability, and desired functionality.
